City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Something I've learned through the years is that, when beginning on a new series, it is prudent to wait a couple of books until deciding whether or not I like what I am reading. This has proven true for a number of books with the exception of Lev Grossman's “Magicians” - which I really did not like and a Swedish crime novel series in which the main character was so annoying that I really couldn't put up with reading about him again. The first book in the “Mortal Instruments” series is kind of dumb but there are interesting details and I like that the author did not make werewolves into stupid dogs and vampires the cool kids on the block. I'll read a couple of more books before passing judgment.
